Did you know that more than a third of American adults are obese? Did you also know that studies show a link between environmental chemical exposures and greater body mass index (BMI)? Well, we know the obesity crisis is real because we can see the problem everyday when we go about our daily lives, but the fact that chemicals in our environment are contributing to this epidemic is not something that is readily recognized, and it should be.
Bruce Blumberg of the University of California, Irvine, coined the term ‘Obesogens’ which are environmental chemicals linked with fat gain. Before Obesogens, obesity was thought to stem from a poor diet and lack of exercise but now scientist are proving that toxic exposure especially to Endocrine Disrupters (chemicals that mess with hormonal pathways) increase a person’s susceptibility to weight gain.
“Obesogens, such as the extensively studied fungicide tributyltin (TBT), can act in a variety of ways to promote fat storage and adipose tissue production, often by disrupting hormonal signaling.”
Scientists believe chemicals used in fungicide and disinfectants, flame retardants, pesticides, insecticides, plastics, fertilizers and non stick coatings are the culprits and should be avoided at all costs. Interestingly, scientist view the dramatic rise in obesity rates among US adults over the past few decades as a indicator that toxic exposures cause harm across generations, that the Obesogens that Grandma was exposed to may also directly affect her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on.

SLN’s Take Home Message
Cleansing our bodies from the chemicals we are exposed every day reduces toxic body burden and may prevent illness and the health of generations after you. There are many cleanses out there right now and I encourage everyone to find one that works for them and to cleanse every month to reduce body burden. Cleansing isn’t hard to do, it is a matter of treating it like other ways to maintain your health just like eating well and exercising. Do it with all your family members and instill this routine into their lives. Read more about Why do we need to de-toxify?
I have tried many cleanses and love Cleanse For Life. Our family cleanses regularly to reduce our toxic exposure and we help others get on their cleanse journey. Learn more about WHAT IS WHOLE BODY NUTRITIONAL CLEANSING and get started today!
